The Brady Campaign to Deny the Civil Rights of American Citizens (formerly known and still operating as Handgun Control Incorporated) has once again released their insipid “report cards” on state firearms laws. It all makes perfect sense if you put on your Bizarro glasses that turn everything upside down. At the Kentucky Coalition to Carry Concealed, we are of course delighted to once again receive an “F” from the Brady Bunch. The way to earn the prestigious “F” from the Brady bunch is to have shall issue concealed carry, no “assault weapons” ban (an “assault weapon” means any gun capable of firing more that one round before needing to be reloaded), no “safe storage” law (meaning that at all times the gun must be locked in a safe completely disassembled with the receiver sliced in half with a cutting torch, and the ammunition safely buried in an adjacent county) and no “Gun Design Safety” law which requires that all handguns be equipped with a Windows CE based handheld computer in the grip which beams your access code, fingerprints, and a DNA sample to an FBI satellite which will return within 3 days a determination of whether or not you can fire your gun. And, you also must not have a law requiring Federal approval to sell your private property to your brother-in-law or a non-preemption law which allows every municipality having a population of 37 or more to pass their own firearms laws. Submitted for your consideration, “Sensible Gun Safety” in the Bizarro world of the Brady Bunch. If you’d like to know more and have a strong stomach, go to http://www.bradycampaign.com
In the interest of de-mystification and cutting through the nanny-state double-speak, let me list the correct definitions of some important terms:
Assault Weapon – a mythological beast which exists only in the imagination of the Brady Bunch.
Assault Rifle – A compact, selective fire rifle chambering a cartridge of intermediate level power.
Gun Design Safety – The fleshy mass between your ears.
Parental Responsibility – The obligation to teach your children safe gun handling, marksmanship, and an appreciation for human life so they do not do stupid things like pointing a loaded gun at their friend and pulling the trigger.
Safe Storage – Storage of the firearm in such a way that it is readily accessible to keep me and my family safe.
Preemption – Laws which prevent urban hoplophobes, nanny-staters, the Brady Bunch and other inhabitants of Bizarro World from passing local gun ordinances which trump the will of the state legislature.
Sensible Gun Safety – Know your backstop. Treat all guns as if they are loaded. Never cover with the muzzle anything you do not intend to destroy. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.

NEWSOM WINS ONE: A FIRST AND SECOND VICTORY.
First Amendment rights and Second Amendment values won a big victory, and political correctness suffered a harsh defeat, last month in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In the case of Newsom v. Albermarle County School Board the Fourth Circuit ruled 3-0 in favor of a public-school student's First Amendment right to wear a shirt from an NRA shooting-sports camp. The unanimous panel rejected the school's preposterous argument that banning the shirt was necessary for school safety.

HOMEOWNER TO FACE GUN CHARGES
A Wilmette homeowner who shot and wounded an intruder succeeded in driving the burglar out of his house and may have ended a series of cat burglaries on the village's east side, but this week he faces weapons charges that include a local ordinance banning handgun possession.

SENATOR FEINGOLD RETHINKING ASSAULT WEAPON BAN
Feingold commented on being the lone U.S. Senator who opposed legislation known as the 'Patriot Act,' which was enacted by Congress following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the East Coast. While he has received both praise and criticism for voting against a bill intended to combat terrorism, Feingold said he wants to change what he believes is flawed with the legislation. 'A lot of gun owners are upset about some of the powers that have been given to the federal government,' he said. 'We're going to try to change that.' When asked about the right to bear arms, Feingold acknowledged he originally voted in favor of banning so-called semi-automatic 'assault weapons.' But he said he hasn't sponsored legislation to continue the ban and is now 'leaning against' renewing it.

GUN-FREE UK: MPS ISSUE GUN CRIME REPORT
Figures released by the Home Office last month showed gun crime in Britain has doubled in the last five years. There were a record 10,250 offences in the year to March. The increase did appear to be slowing down, however, as firearms were used in 3 per cent more offences in 2002-2003, compared with a massive 35 per cent leap the year before.
